The second amendment was ratified in a time where the US were just born, a fragile state just out of a bloody war. Every single men had to be able to defend the newborn state from foreign woes. US needed a legal basis: and so 2nd amendment was born. That time is long gone, US is nowadays more that capable to fend off any enemy on its path. The citizens need that right no more, and keeping it makes you a bit more medieval than others. I thank every day not to live in the US, I thank every day not to live in a country where a trespasser can (sometimes) be shot dead even if not threatening another life, without any major consequences for the shooter.
